Théâtre de l'Arbre Perché

Like an athlete, an actor can only perform well when she/he maintains an ongoing training discipline. And theater is the vehicle that allows regular, in depth training of the diverse aspects of the craft of acting.

In setting up the Théâtre de l'Arbre Perché, our goal was to create an environment in which we could produce plays from the classical repertoire, which would require specific skills like theatrical fencing, dance, singing...

Life and work within the company involves two areas:

  • The plays: specific approaches, production, the team
  • Actor training: Physical training: core fitness, theatrical fencing, dance...; instrumental training: voice, diction, song...

2007: Cyrano de Bergerac

Although the play by Edmond Rostand is set in the XVIIe century, it is remarkably contemporary. Love and panache are the themes of this play, and, in our fast times, Cyrano teaches us again the values of an ancient world, slow and beautiful.

"Cyrano would be Rostand's most successful hero yet: a poet, of course, idealistic, courageous, a man of deep feelings, his bravado an attempt to foil pity for his appearance, his wit a cover for his suffering heart (...) Rostand had poured all his own romantic ardour and passion for the Ideal. Cyrano's characteristics, too, are his own: integrity, independence, courage, enthusiasm, refusing to compromise with the ways of the world, hiding his sensitive poet's nature behind a joking exterior (...) Truly Rostand modeled Cyrano from the wax of his own soul, as his wife claimed."

- Sue Lloyd: "The Man who was Cyrano. A life of Edmond Rostand, Creator of Cyrano de Bergerac."
