When two Jasons meet - Mixing contemporary art and denim.

I briefly met Jason York in his Gastown studio. We had a chance to chat about his paintings, inspirations and his journey into the art world. During the hour we chatted, I could see the power of his paintings – His unique style, shapes, colours evoke so much, amazing energy. When he mentioned a coming opening in a denim store in Yaletown, the whole thing picked my interest and I went on the ride.

The Brooklyn Clothing Co is located right at Davie and Homer, in the Yaletown neighbourhood. When I discussed with Jason Overbo, the owner of the store, he emphasized his approach to bring unique products – denim, shoes, accessories. A independent seamstress works also in the store. So having Jason York (the painter) transforming a denim in a piece of art felt totally into Jason Overbo's alley of doing things and approach to retailing – "Over the years, we became a destination where we customize as much as we can our products and value craftsmanship".

Look for Jason York in the future, his art is already sold in various galleries and in international markets and if you're into cool denims both Jasons are your men.
